Michael Kalmbach and Martin Liebscher lived together in the redlight district of Frankfurt. At this time Kalmbach held sculpture courses at the prison and made clay portraits of the captives.
Liebscher developed a special pinhole camera only to photograph the small figures in the area. Due to the long exposure time and the field of depth the crowded streets seem empty and the figures seem life-size.
